About Me

One thing we can be sure of in our life is that we will have to deal with change.  That is certainly true when I look back over my life so far.  Personally, my family has gone through the different stages including births and deaths, and I have moved to different houses and even countries.  Professionally, I have worked in Education but in different sectors – Secondary, Further and Higher Education – and have moved from teaching to lecturing to management, working part-time or full-time at different stages.  Did it all go smoothly?  Of course not.  There were many bumps along the way.  And did I always make good decisions?  Looking back, I realise that I may have made better decisions if I had taken time to take a step back and evaluate my situation and my actions more objectively and optimistically.  Better still, I could have asked someone else to help me examine my own thinking around what was happening.  After all, two heads are better than one.

Working in Education, I have worked with students studying Maths, IT and Business Administration/management gave me many opportunities to develop my coaching skills.  For example, I have coached students in the following situations:

  • Coming to terms with the independent study requirements of higher level study

  • Breaking seemingly insurmountable tasks into a series of smaller achievable tasks

  • Adjusting to a return to study in adulthood

  • Overcoming a lack of confidence that is holding them back from achieving.

Examples of staff coaching include:

  • Helping staff to recognise the strengths they show in their work
    and developing their confidence

  • Exploring their development needs with them

  • Supporting them to take on new responsibilities.

Examples of coaching outside Education include:

  • Helping a disillusioned writer overcome procrastination and become motivated to write again

  • Supporting someone through returning to the workplace after a break

  • Helping someone overcome a habit of negative thinking about their performance that was holding them back.

What stands out for me is that supporting people to think for themselves works.  Coaching principles cut across different professional or personal backgrounds – people are people, after all.  As a result, I am now available to work with you whatever your background.

'What stands out for me is that supporting people to think for themselves works.'

‘I have just completed 3 sessions of coaching with Elizabeth, which flew past, probably because of the quality of the journey she took me on. Elizabeth was attentive throughout the process and certainly helped me to make significant headway with a topic which has been on my mind. I would certainly recommend working with her.’ Hannah
